The dove hunting trip started in 1991 with Dennis being one of the original founding members and only consisted of about five guys. By 1996, the hunt was officially named Crown Royal Shoot-Out (CRSO) and had grown to 9 guys.
Originally there was only one competition, hunting. By 1995, skeet shooting was added and shortly after the horseshoe competition was also added. By 2000, the CRSO consisted of dove hunting, skeet shooting, horseshoes, and washer competitions and had grown to 12+ guys. In 2016, the hunt celebrated its 25th anniversary. In Dennis’ honor, we are now proud sponsors of the Dennis Henneke Foundation.
Dennis was always such a key part in the fun and excitement of this annual dove hunting trip. We have made some amazing memories through the years. Anyone who knew Dennis knows that he had a passion for cooking. He would cook every meal for all of us guys and had fun doing it. He was usually barefoot in shorts and sometimes even a t-shirt. In the last 10 years or so, he got into his healthy living and loved to cook healthier foods like grilled fish. His menu always included his famous BBQ and sauce (no recipe of course).
Dennis was a fierce horseshoe competitor and rarely did he lose at the game. He enjoyed it all – horseshoes, poker, shooting, washers. But even more memorable than the cooking or the competing, was just his fun, energetic spirit that made him the life of any group he was in! The event truly started when Dennis arrived! He truly loved to be with people and hearing about their lives.
This year’s trip was not the same without Dennis and he was missed more than words can say. We hope to do great things in his memory and carry on his philosophies of life - generosity, loving and caring for others and living life to its fullest!
